The evidence submission window for the National Data Index opens every January, for roughly 6 weeks, sometimes extending to mid-February. Once a year, and no more than that.

Why preparing ahead really matters

Six weeks isn’t enough to build data-governance, classification, and personal-data-protection evidence from scratch. Organizations that enter the window with evidence already in hand, rather than ones that start gathering it once the window opens, are the ones whose score ends up actually reflecting where they stand.
